Furthermore, this program provides an in-depth and comprehensive understanding of music production with a 70% practical and 30% theory approach.

In this 3-year course, you’ll learn vital foundational concepts such as music composition and theory so that you can make music in any genre.

First Year - SSE101 Studio Sound Engineering I
The studio sound engineering 101 module will provide you with the knowledge skills and tools required to record and mix audio with confidence, passion and understanding.

First Year - MPT101 Music Production Technique I
Music Production Technique 101 Unleash your creative potential All key modern production elements are covered including: beat making, bass lines, pads, leads and vocal production in a variety of genres.

First Year - MPS101 Music Production Software
Industry Standard. International Pro Tools User Certification Training. Students will learn to build sessions designed for commercial purposes and improve the end results of their recordings, editing, and mixing efforts. The exercises provide experience in setting up sessions, importing media, working with digital video, spotting sound effects, using loop recording and MIDI Merge techniques. It also includes working with virtual instruments, warping with Elastic Audio, applying real-time properties, creating clip loops, applying signal processing, using automation and using sub mixes and track groups to simplify a final mix. This course provides the training required to prepare for the Avid Certified User exam.

Musical Ear Training 101 is an intensive ear training program which provides practical exercises and drills necessary to refine your perception of musical sound and enhance critical listening skills.

Second Year - SSE201 Studio Sound Engineering II

Third Year - APP301 Audio Post Production
Expand your skill set by learning and putting into practice industry standard workflows for audio post production. Including dialogue, foley, sound design and composition for film and TV.

Third Year - MBE301 Music Business Entrepreneurship
Plan for the future and while studying create a viable business plan. Learn what it takes to start your own business with the support of experienced entrepreneurs and coaches.

Third Year - SSE301 Studio Sound Engineering III (Elective)
The advanced studio sound engineering module addresses advanced skills needed to be successful in a professional studio environment. Students enrolled for this module work towards a portfolio of practical projects with real-world applications.

Third Year - MMC301 Media Music Composition (Elective)
Designed to build on the theoretical, practical and creative skills acquired in MPT201 and MMT 201 to culminate in the production of techni- cally and intricate musical compositions in a variety of genres with commercial applications. The module also serves as a platform for the creation of a professional portfolio to enhance the chances of the learner to gain employment upon completion of the course.

Third Year - SSD301 Sound Synthesis & Design (Elective)
Master the theoretical, practical and creative skills required to make use of a variety of sound synthesis techniques for the creation of original musical sounds, instruments and effects.

Third Year - EMP301 Electonic Music Production (Elective)
Produce mix and master two full EPs of your own music using advanced Electronic Music techniques and create a live performance set to to play your music to a live audience.

Most frequent questions and answers

To apply for an accredited full-time course you need to complete the online application form by clicking on the Apply button above.

Once your application has been received, we will contact you and request a copy of your matric certificate, current report, or your preliminary matric results if you have not yet passed grade 12, as well as a copy of your ID.

Our college registrar will then contact you for the outstanding documentation which includes a copy of your payees’ ID and proof of income. We will send you the payment contract to complete as well as the invoices for the registration fee of R4500 and the course fee.

As soon as we have received your registration fee your seat is secured at EMENDY for the next intake.

All course registrations close 2 weeks before the course starting date. Late registrations will be open until the course starting date at an additional fee. 

Yes! EMENDY offers a variety of short courses designed for those who can’t study full time. These courses are individually created to provide you with the necessary skills to reach your career goals. 

For the Diploma Course, you need to have a diploma pass on your matric certificate.

40% for your Home Language.
40% for three other High Credit subjects (Four, including your home language).
30% for two other subjects.

 

We do not offer any accommodation,  but being situated in the student hub of Hatfield, Pretoria, there are many accommodation options available. Recommended accommodation places are listed in the course booklet.

Class lengths vary, the longest being 3 hours. Students are divided into groups and a schedule drafted for the semester. Depending on your group you attend class between 8 am and 5 pm Monday to Friday.

Matric or graduating from high school GRADE 12 is equivalent to SAQA NQF 4. 

The Diploma course is NQF 6.

Not to worry, you can enroll in a short course that does not require a matric certificate. Book a campus visit to discuss your career goals with the Admissions team to find out which course will best suit your needs.
